Silk, Thread & Spring in Korea: A Textiles Journey Our first Korea Tour (Coming Soon)

Embark on an extraordinary journey into South Korea’s rich textile heritage, tracing the delicate art of Korean embroidery (jasu), fine silk, and traditional hand-quilting (nubi) across Seoul, Andong, and Gyeongju. In Seoul, your exploration begins where imperial history meets contemporary craft. At the Seongbuk Seonjam Museum, discover the sacred origins of Korean sericulture at the historical altar dedicated to silkworm rearing, followed by visits to world-class collections at the Seoul Museum of Craft Art (SeMoCA), the Chung Young Yang Embroidery Museum, and the Chojun Textile & Quilt Art Museum. Beyond the galleries, stroll through historic hanok alleys, vibrant traditional markets, and refined dining spaces like Onjium and Jihwaja that bring Korea’s aesthetic traditions into the modern era.
Journey into the heart of regional craftsmanship in Andong and the ancient royal capital of Gyeongju. Experience the miraculous art of fine-woven Hansan ramie—a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage—at the Hansan Ramie Fabric Museum before traveling south to Gyeongju’s ancient tumuli and temple complexes. Here, amidst centuries of Silla history at the Gyeongju National Museum and Yangdong Folk Village, participate in an exclusive hands-on nubi pouch-making workshop, while exploring traditional natural plant-dyeing studios and historic artisanal brewing estates.
Throughout the itinerary, visits to iconic landmarks like Changdeokgung Palace offer a holistic view of traditional Korean design, architecture, and royal heritage. While major national museums in Seoul generally provide English signage and audio guides, smaller craft workshops, master studios, and regional heritage sites in Andong and Gyeongju operate primarily in Korean. To ensure complete instruction, deep cultural context, and effortless translation, all guided tours, hands-on masterclasses, and artisan meetings on this trip are fully accompanied by an expert English-speaking guide and interpreter.
